CalAmp's Telematics Systems Business Unit (TSBU) OEM group develops and markets public GSM/CDMA based wireless routers, heavy equipment telematics devices and cloud-based network service applications. OEM Groups network service applications are built on an open-source software platform that provides wireless network, router/device management services for enterprise applications in the heavy equipment and commercial fleet markets. The routers, telematics devices and network provide highly reliable, 24/7 solutions that are used by tier-one OEM and enterprise customers throughout the world.


The OEM group is comprised of a highly motivated team of product development, marketing, sales and operations personnel specializing in wireless communications across public cellular networks while operating form rugged equipment environments. The product development group consists of highly skilled software engineers, electrical engineers and wireless network professionals who are laser focused on creating the next generation of wireless devices used in remote monitoring, tracking and control solutions. To ensure that these solutions are best in class, Calamp is looking to add a highly motivated individual to become a strong contributor to the heavy equipment telematics product lines.


  • Lead a small team of HW Engineers working on multiple products 
  • Work with Project Management to develop project plans.
  • Drive HW development to meet project timelines and requirements.
  • Work closely with other organizations on product realization.
  • Work with Operations on maintenance of existing products
  • Turn requirements and High level designs into working products.
  • Execute testing and troubleshooting at all levels of the hardware and product development process.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Mentor less senior team members. 


Must Haves

  • BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years experience in hardware development development.
  • 10+ years experience with schematic capture and layout.
  • 5+ years experience in designing product to meet EMC regulatory requirements such as FCC/IC and CE.
  • 5+ years experience in creating and maintaining design documentation including requirement specification, HW design validation plans, detailed validation reports, DFMEAs, etc.
  • 3+ years experience in leading small HW Team
  • 3+ years experience in Source Sontrol Management systems like CVS and Git
  • 3+ years experience with 2G/3G/4G (LTE) cellular wireless protocols
  • 7+ years experience in IP Protocols


Strong Pluses

  • Strong experience in the design, development, and debugging of embedded Linux systems desired.
  • Experience with Cellular 2G, 3G, and 4G (LTE) technologies desired.
  • Experience with wireless protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, and WiFi desired.
  • Knowledge of APQP principles and application to product development methodologies desired.
  • Strong communication skills required. 
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing and product development life cycle – from requirements to integration and testing required
