Currently, we are seeking a Radio Firmware Development Intern with at least 1 year of experience. R&D continually investigates activities to improve existing products. Specifically, cost and size reduction in VLU units which will allow for easier installation and more covertness while providing better market penetration.


As a Firmware Engineer Intern in our Canton, Massachusetts office, you will work closely with a team of experienced engineers to design, build, and debug new telematics devices. You will assist development of a radio state machine and programming to demonstrate feasibility of new chipsets in the VLU architecture, including but not limited to the following:

  • Low-power RF products for automotive applications that have wi-fi and bluetooth
  • Base stations (DSP - digital signal processing for demodulation and detection of digital transmissions)
  • Enabling LotSmart, SureDrive and other applications of vehicle connectivity
  • Enabling the Connected Car experience of the future
  • Enabling generalized "Connected Car" set of experiences for consumers
  • Performing investigative work around transceiver chips
  • Designing and building boards as well as interfacing hardware
  • Writing test scripts in Python for controlling and characterizing transceivers, as well as sending serial commands to development boards
  • Testing and analysis of devices
  • Writing microcode for transceivers and transmitter signals
  • Sending scripts to microcontrollers for RF devices
  • Using microcontrollers to send commands
  • Working with principal RF engineer to create test environment to control radio
  • Software development using Python



Must Haves

  • Currently pursing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and desire to be a team player


Strong Pluses

  • Go-getter attitude with energized work ethic

  • C programming

  • Embedded C programming

  • Python scripting

  • Has taken a course or has interest in electromagnetics

  • Has taken a course or has interest in radio (in order to make certain characteristics of radio perform what you want)

  • Has taken a course or has interest in software architecture

  • Has taken a course or has interest in DSP (digital signal processing)

  • Knowledge of lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, meters

  • Sautering skills
